A unique collaboration of fashion and art takes us back to the time when designer Elsa Schiaparelli partnered with artist Salvador Dali to set the earliest example for the artistic cross-pollination between fashion and art. Fast-forward to 2019, Papa Don’t Preach, a brand with urban sense of style gave us another distinctive approach to when fashion met art.
Papa Don’t Preach by Shubhika Davda hosted a Fashion X Art Installation at the Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop earlier this month. The event gave us the most interesting forms of art installation.
A tale to tell
One Way Ticket was the narrative tale through the eyes of a “curiouser and curiouser” called Alice, who finds herself in an unknown world and dressed perfectly in Papa Don’t Preach. It took the audience through a journey of cacophony of colours, characters and emotions. The whole experience of the store was filled with inspiring atmosphere and whirlwind of designs. There was something of everything that every fashion and art lover would adore. The store was decorated as if someone was in a space with full of clouds, with an experience of secret plantations of air scents, a vintage bio-scope, clock passage and more. The air itself was heavy with art and as we walked through the whimsical and contemporary installations, the more magic we found. Going above and beyond we also witnessed the enigmatic Alice, graced in an exquisite Papa Don’t Preach outfit.
Fashion X Art
The event featured pop colors and impeccable surface ornamentation and Shubhika’s creations that are unique and innovative. I Speaking about her brand, founder Shubhika said that, “Everyone must be able to embrace their individuality with their style, and this is what I am for with every collection.”
The brand effortlessly blended the elements from distinct worlds together through their collections and the space that they had created. With the perfect mixture of shopping, art, installations and designs, the magical event had enchanted with high spirits.
The installation was truly one of its kind, something that certainly never been executed before. Many celebrities like Shamita Shetty, Amrita Puri, Sherry Shroff, Mitali Sagar (House of MISU), etc graced the event and were left spell-bounded.
When asked for a reason behind its extravagance, all Shubhika had to say was “It was so people could experience Papa Don’t Preach as a whole; not just as a brand that designs clothes, but the mere essence of it. We are all storytellers here, and this was the best way for people to take a peek inside our minds, into what inspires us to create what we do, in our own colourful fantastical way, every day.” This installation exhibits the personality of that Papa Don’t Preach Girl and all her quirks, colours, charm and magic.
Founded in 2010 by Shubhika, Papa Don’t Preach is a brand that constantly experiments and redefines their fashion boundaries. They want their customers to wake-up pretty, step out chic, work sexy-slick, dine glamourous, and party rebelliously-pink.
